Welcome

I love the mountains.  I love being outside.  I love lamp.  Well, two out of three.

For anyone who has hiked, summited a peak, skied powder, paddled a river, or just taken in a mountain view, they know the benefits that wilderness can bring.

Unfortunately, not everyone has that opportunity.

Enter Big City Mountaineers.  For over 20 years, Big City Mountaineers (BCM) has combined the power of mentoring with sequential wilderness mentoring experiences to develop character, integrity, responsibility and decision making skills that lead to positive behavioral change in youth. They work exclusively with under-resourced, racially diverse youth, most between the ages of 13 and 18, who often have no experience outside their neighborhoods. BCM has a proven track record of developing healthy, caring and successful young people by: increasing academic achievement; reducing violence; reducing drug use; and increasing physical activity. As you can imagine, providing these programs takes substantial resources, both of time and money.  To that end, I am working to fundraise $4,000 to support BCM’s programs through their Summit for Someone program.  For reaching that goal, I will be offered the chance to summit Mount Rainier, the highest peak in Washington and the Cascades, during the summer of 2013*.

Support

To donate, please visit my donor page on the Summit for Someone website.  Please donate directly to BCM through this site to ensure credit is given and that you receive a tax receipt (donations sent directly to me cannot receive tax receipts – The IRS does not view me as a charity).

I truly appreciate any support.  For the financial kind, I’m personally providing thank you gifts as a token of my appreciation (100% of your donation still goes to BCM).  In addition to my day job, I do some photography and woodworking on the side and I am offering free photos and ski woodcrafts.  View the Thank You Gifts page to see the current gifts.

*An important note: I am personally contributing the value of the climb, providing my own gear, and travel.  This is not “pay to have Dave climb,” but rather “donate to a great cause and Dave will happen to be climbing too.”
